I occasionally dabble at writing and the topics range from product management, connected health, UX and fashion (among other things). Much of this is outside the realms of my full-time job.

One Kurta. Two Ways.

I love getting creative with my outfits and as many of us, want to get more bang-for-the-buck (i.e. more use out of the clothing in my wardrobe!). I recently purchased this black cotton kurta on sale from Westisde on my recent trip to India. Although I live in a very desi-dominated part of the United States (i.e. SF Bay Area), I still don't get plenty of opportunities to wear Indian outfits. So I always look pieces that can be styled in different ways, so that I can switch up the look for work and for a special occasion.

For the first, more-western inspired look, I paired the kurta with some red heels from Lolashoetique, as black-and-red is always an eye-catching combination.

For the more Indian-inspired look, I threw on a red dupatta with Zari work that I purchased online from Utsav Fashion. I threw on a pair of black leggings to complete the salwar outfit and switched out my earrings and nosepin with some gold ones. Red lips and a red bindi went hand-in-hand with the rest of the outfit.

This is a trick that has always worked well, where I throw on a bright colored or textured dupatta over a kurta or dress with leggings to really change up the look. Always a good idea to have some pretty dupattas on hand for this reason!

Hope you enjoyed reading this post! Special thanks to my husband who was bribed with a lavish meal to shoot these pictures on my iPhoneX.
